Formed in 2004 in Kelmis, Belgium, Nasty is a hardcore punk and beatdown band known for their aggressive sound and relentless energy on stage. The band consists of Matthias on vocals, Paddy on electric guitar, Nash on drums, and Berry on electric bass. Over the years, Nasty has made a significant impact on the hardcore music scene, both in Europe and globally, with a string of powerful albums and memorable live performances.
Early Years and Formation
Nasty began under the original name “Van Damme,” releasing their debut demo album, Van Damme, in 2004. A year later, the band followed up with The Beginning (2005), setting the stage for their unique style that would capture the attention of hardcore and metal fans. By 2006, they solidified their presence with the release of their first studio album, Declaring War, under Fuck This Recordings, signaling the start of their rise in the European hardcore scene.
Growth and Success
In 2008, Nasty switched to Goodlife Recordings, launching their second studio album, Aggression. This collaboration was fruitful, and in 2010 they released Give a Shit, a hard-hitting album that further cemented their reputation for raw, unfiltered sound and intense lyrics. Nasty’s bold, defiant attitude became a defining trait, drawing in a loyal fanbase.
With their fourth studio album, Love, released in 2013 under Beatdown Hardwear, Nasty’s sound evolved with heavier beats and thematic depth. However, the journey wasn’t without challenges; dissatisfied with the promotional efforts of their previous label, the band sought out Beatdown Hardwear to better reach their growing audience.
Touring and International Recognition
Nasty’s relentless touring schedule brought them to the forefront of the hardcore scene, performing at some of Europe’s largest festivals and touring alongside well-known acts. Notable festival appearances include With Full Force (2012) and the Impericon Festival in Leipzig, where they shared stages with Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside, and Caliban. Nasty continued to perform with a range of artists, from Eyes Set to Kill to Madball, gaining widespread recognition.
Their extensive touring included the 2013 Taste of Anarchy Tour through Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as performances across Eastern Europe with Deez Nuts, Your Demise, and Madball. Nasty also joined the EMP Persistence Tour in 2014, playing alongside legends like Suicidal Tendencies, Terror, and Strife, which further established their international fanbase.
Later Work and Legacy
With the release of their 2015 album Shokka, Nasty embarked on the Taste of Anarchy Tour once more, this time joined by Lionheart, Desolated, and Coldburn. Their intense performances and raw sound continued to appeal to fans worldwide, allowing the band to expand their tours to Asia and South America.
Nasty’s journey from a small town in Belgium to the international hardcore stage is a testament to their passion and resilience. With each album, tour, and performance, they have maintained a raw, unyielding sound that resonates with hardcore fans around the world. Known for their dedication and no-compromise attitude, Nasty continues to influence and energize the hardcore scene, inspiring a new generation of musicians and fans alike.
