Malevolence are coming to Bucharest, 15.12 at Expirat!

British quintet Malevolence produce an uncompromising blend of sludgy metal and brutal metallic hardcore, without ever sounding like a generic "metalcore" band. Gradually paying their dues, they slowly worked their way up to a deal with Nuclear Blast in time for their third album, 2022's Malicious Intent.

Malevolence officially formed in 2010 in Sheffield, England with the addition of vocalist Alex Taylor, but guitarists Josh Baines and Konan Hall had met in primary school and were already performing live under the name in 2004, when they were just 12 years old. The band was rounded out by Wilkie Robinson (bass) and Charlie Thorpe (drums). The band slowly raised their profile, starting out in the local scene and building a fanbase.

Their first album, Reign of Suffering, was released by Siege of Amida in 2013 and was an immediate critical success, earning them support slots the following year on the European tours of Obey the Brave and Dying Fetus. In 2016, they toured the U.S., and the next year released their second album, Self Supremacy, through BDHW. More tours followed, supporting Despised Icon, Misery Signals, and Darkest Hour, as did a slot at the huge Download Festival in 2018. The following year, Malevolence launched their own label, MLVLTD, and built their own rehearsal space, giving them greater creative control and flexibility. In 2020, they released the EP The Other Side, which saw a marked evolution in their sound, with more progressive song structures and moments of introspection. In 2021, they played Download again.

After losing several friends to suicide during the COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor became a vocal proponent of the importance of men's mental health, particularly in the emotionally buttoned-up hardcore scene. Malevolence announced a deal with Nuclear Blast in 2022. Their third album, Malicious Intent, was released that year and was their most accomplished to date, adding more straightforward melody and accessibility to their sound, while the lyrics preached a message of positivity and self-worth. The album also included features from Trivium's Matt Heafy and Kublai Khan's Matt Honeycutt.
