Germany’s Groza traffics in multiple extreme metal sub-genres, combining nihilistic melodic black metal with immersive post- and progressive metal to achieve sinister, life-unaffirming results. Formed in 2016 as the solo vision of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist P.G. (Patrick Ginglseder), the project evolved into a full-fledged band by the time of their 2018 debut, Unified in Void. Uncompromising and bleak, the record drew heavy influence from Polish black metal enthusiasts Mgła, whose own debut album inspired Groza‘s name. The Redemptive End appeared three years later, showcasing the group’s sonic evolution by adding melancholic clean guitar sections and dark melodic passages. It was followed in 2024 by Nadir, which pushed Groza further into post- and progressive-metal territory while maintaining the frenetic blastbeats and suffocating atmospherics of their earlier work. It also became the band’s first charting effort. The concert LP Live at Ragnarok was released in late 2025, capturing the band’s searing performance at the Ragnarök Festival in Lichtenfels, Germany, earlier that year.
